A Different Kind of Shiny

Russ' Pour
Title: Russ’s Pour
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 16″ x 24″
Buy Print: ($200)
Buy Original: N/A

There is a change in my Acrylic Gallery; I’ve been asked about this one before. A good friend commissioned a painting of a Vodka bottle for a gift. Not tequila, but a shiny bottle and glasses. I’ve finally gotten it photographed and proofed, and prints are available for the first time. It is a bottle of Chopin (pronounced Sho-PAN) and highlights a frosted bottle that was a real challenge to paint. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out, and even put in a couple of spills for an added something. The original is titled “Russ’s Pour” and is a 16” x 24” acrylic on canvas. The original is not available; however, giclėe prints are available in the original size or smaller by special order.

If you have a favorite whiskey, Scotch, Gin, wine bottle, or whatever you’d like, I’d be happy to paint it for you. See How to Buy for more details, or drop me a line via the Contact Page.

All this talk about Vodka is making me thirsty for a martini…

Herradura

This is number 13 in my series of My Favorite Tequilas. Herradura is one of my old favorites, and in my opinion a very underrated Anejo Tequila. With three glass objects, this was a challenge and a joy to paint. What a beautiful bottle! And I love painting shiny things, especially when they are full of tequila!

My Struggle With a Certain Painting

The Three Amigos

My latest painting was a challenge, for a number of reasons.

The Three Amigos” (not to be confused with the brand of tequila called 3 Amigos) was far more challenging than I expected it to be when I began it. I struggled with “The Three Amigos” more than any painting I can remember. Certainly part of my struggle was due to the distractions of moving, which began at the end of August. The work was also a bear to paint because of all the Dia de los Muertos’ detail in the labels!

The Obsession

Miranda's Obsession
Title: Miranda’s Obsession
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 22″ x 28″
Buy Print: ($345)
Buy Original: N/A

I’ve been asked many times what drove me to paint “Miranda’s Obsession.” Miranda works at Super Cuts, and cuts my hair. (Okay, no hair jokes.) She has many piercings and is covered with tattoos. One day I asked about the one on her left arm, and she told me of the HUGE expense it took to get it there. The tattoo is Alice In Wonderland with a twist. Days later, I had the thought of doing a tequila painting that included her arm raising a nice snifter of fine tequila, and the tequila that came to mind is the luscious Los Azulejos anejo in the Picasso bottle. My thought was: art meets art. The painting begs the question: what is her obsession, the tattoos, or the tequila? You can provide your own answer. Miranda’s Obsession was a stretch for me, and a fun challenge.

Number 11 in the series “My Favorite Tequilas,” Miranda’s Obsession features beautiful tattoos with an Alice In Wonderland theme, complimented by a hand painted bottle of Los Azulejos Anejo. The tatoos were a challenge, but worth every minute.

Thank you to Miranda for serving as the inspiration for this work.
